I was wondering who all out there has any advice about learning to play the guitar. A friend and I meet every week and are tring to learn to play. Are there any good ways to learn? HOw about some fun song other then the kiddie stuff? My friend and I are in our 20's and want some songs that are like the Oldies or Christian music, or even stuff from the 80's or 90's. We so far only know three Chords: A, D, E. what can we play with these chords (Tabs)? Can anyone help?

learn good riddance by green day first cause its really easy, a pretty old song, and helps you with chord changes. :)

I'd suggest taking some lessons to get the basics under your belt and start out right - I started teaching myself, then took a few lessons, and got told all the little bits I was doing wrong. I had lessons for about two months and then decided I could do the rest on my own, since I'm doing it for me and not to be an amazing guitarist in a band or something.

There are plenty of sites online with user-submitted material. This means it can be horribly wrong, but some of it's great. For example, chordie.com or ultimate-guitar.com. I know the first will transpose it on the site, so sometimes you can take a scary-looking thing and make it all nice and reassuring. Good luck!

buy a beginners book and learn more chords, if you can play a,d,&e, you can also play c,f,&g. slip an a-minor in there and you can play about every oldie known to man. with the chords you know, you can play louie louie, gloria, and ive got a bunch of dead cells, cant remember back that far. you need to learn a 4th chord or all your going to play is the same song over and over again. the best thing is to find someone who plays allready to show you stuff. have fun.
