I like it. My wife likes it, but think's it's too unusual. Is it a "beat me up" type of name, or is it cool and unusual?

....btw, it's the main characters nickname in the book "Enders Game". Great read if you haven't read it by Orson Scott Card

My name is Ender, just googled my name which is how I happened upon this. I wasn't teased as a kid. Now people recognize the name for the book character Ender Wiggen from Ender's Game. I don't really care if you pick the name for your child or not but just thought I would defend it. And by the way, kids don't really make fun of names as they allegidly use to. If you can name a kid Surry, Apple, and whatever else I would say Ender is a sure bet.

I can just hear the kids yelling "Rear-Ender" at him day in and day out. Honestly, picking a name for a child, I'd avoid two things: Names that can be shortened into something that's somewhat "profiling" or stereotypical, and names that can be coupled with other words to make derogitory phrases and rhymes.

Profiling, by the way, meaning a name associated with something specific, like, for example, childhood. When I hear the name "Tyler," I think child. That's just me, personally, but that's what I associate it with, and I know other people who think along the same lines.

If you're stupid enough to believe kids get beaten up because of their names you are foolish. Ender is a cool, unique name.

It's your decision and your child. Your should make a Pro's and Con's list for the name. You could also use it as a middle name if you truley think it is a "beat me up" name, but you still want to use it.

Please don't name your baby Ender. One day he will have to fill out job applications, send resumes, make business telephone calls and ask girls out for dates. Please give him a name that not only identifies him as a male, but that people can understand. Very few people will "get" where the name Ender came from and understand its significance. If it is very important to you, give it to him as a middle name.

There are many unusual and great baby boy names out there that are easily recognizable as male names and that are easy to spell and understand. Give the little one a break, and don't make him start out in life with a name that screams, "What sex are you, where did you get that name, and oh, by the way, here's a punch in the face"! He will thank you for it!

P.S. Congratulations on having a new baby!

Well, I guess it all depends on if this is the last child you plan on having (Enders). But, no I don't particularly like the name but you have to live with it (the name and your wife), so good luck!

It is kind of cool but you are probably right about him getting beat up about it. What about Anders? Slight modification and not overly used.

My advice is to not name your kid that your asking to give your baby boy a hard time when he starts to grow up and go through school. Also what will people think when he fills out job application's. I think he will have a very hard time going through life so plz don't do this to your baby boy.
