All long running series, regardless of genre, go through slump periods where they either have to find new ways to reinvent themselves or decide to leave while they're still relatively on top of their game.
It's even worse for soap operas because of the daily production and presentation schedule for most of them.
You might want to write to the producers in support of the show to let them know you're still watching. But just remember PBS stations here in America are a bit behind in presenting BBC episodes.

Well...
Phil shot the scriptwriter...
Grant ran off with the producer
Pat emigrated with the director
Peggy beat the living daylights out of every camera man on set because they shot her sideways.
And news has just come in that the Vic sank without warning into Den's grave!
And as for the square... Johnny Allen paid some bent screws to blast it into next week...
I think the new series is trying to stay in keeping with the current day issues... it's entitled... 'the east is where it ends'

This programme is about a bunch of depressing, argumentative misfits. It beats me how this awful prog has lasted this long.It is full of doom and gloom and should have been given the chop years ago. A soap needs a mixture of seriousness and humour which we see in Corrie which is great.

I think a sudden meteor shower should wipe it out - along with HollyOaks, Emmerdale, Corrie, Footballers Wife's, the list goes on

Seeing how everyone is always at the old vic, the laundromat or the market, you can foresee the line becoming predictable.
