no, Yeast infections are caused by a form of yeast commonly found in the vagina known as Candida. The use of antibiotics, among other things, can be a factor in the development of a yeast infection. It is common that when yeast infections occur, they do so shortly before your period begins. Because of that, women may mistakenly believe that their tampon is the cause of the yeast infection but they are not!

However use of tampons has been linked with TSS. Tampon research has shown that the risk of tampon-related TSS is associated with absorbency: the higher the absorbency the higher the risk; the lower the absorbency the lower the risk. A woman should always use the lowest absorbency tampon for her menstrual flow.

Some women decide that the risk of TSS and/or the dry vaginal feeling (because tampons absorb all fluid in the vaginal area) they won't wear tampons. There are other internal methods, such as the menstrual cup (some brand names are, The Keeper, Mooncup, Instead, Diva Cup), which catch's menstrual fluid in a little cup and is inserted in a similar way to a tampon. There is no risk of TSS associated with menstrual cups as it simply collects menstural fluid, rather than absorbing.
