My baby is one-month old and seems to eat ALL THE TIME! He will wake up at night about every 1.5 to 2 hours and will eat about 3 oz. During the day he will eat about 4 oz. and will sleep about 2 hours and then get back up to eat? Is this normal?? My daughter, who is now two, didn't eat nearly as much as my new baby son. I'm at my wit's end because I don't get any sleep or rest!

Oh, I'm bottle feeding! Not breast feeding, and with my daughter, she slept for about 3-4 hours straight at three-weeks old... lol.

I wouldn't suggest putting cereal in his bottle, unless you first consult with his pediatrician. The reason I say this is because you don't want to over feed him and he becomes overweight. We all know the older children get the more food they consume. So, you don't want your baby to start cereal now and when he should be eating cereal he's needing table food just to fulfill his hunger.
Now you can try giving him maybe 2 oz. of water in between feedings. So, you would basically alternate a 4 oz. bottle of milk then 2 hours later give him a 2 oz. bottle of water with or without juice flavoring (again consult his pediatrician). During his milk feeding I would suggest you burp him maybe after 2 oz. then feed him the rest.
I have two children myself and they both ate differently as newborns. But believe me it'll work out for you. And if you're really worried about this pray to God for answers and he'll reveal them to you.

That is actually very normal. Most babies eat between 3-4 oz. every 1.5-2 hrs. Unfortunately there's not much you can do, just wait for him to outgrow it, it gets better around 4 months old, by then he'll eat more milk and less often so you'll get soem rest. All babies are different, my daughter would sleep 12 hrs at a time and not wake up to eat and my son wants to eat all the time, so it just varies, hang in there, it'll get better.

my son is now 13months and when he was born he would eat every 2 hours for at least 40 mins. he was breastfed so I'm not totally sure how much he would eat but i think it was about 6 oz 9only because vi pumped to and that's how much i would get. i asked my PD and he told me feed him till hes full. The baby will let you know if he hungry or full. Every baby is different i went about a month of this when he finally just stopped and went to sleeping for 6hr stretches and eating faster and being content longer. You'll be OK just take a deep breath and sleep any chance he and your daughter sleep at the same time. Good luck.

that sounds normal...specially if its a boy...they have bigger appitites....my son was exactly the same way after he was born....every 1.5-2 hours he would eat 3-4 oz.....and actually when my son was born he wouldnt latch right so he couldnt get enough milk out so he would end up nursing for 45 mins then be ready to nurse again within 1/2 hour to hour....it was horrible! i was really getting no sleep...and i did that for 3 weeks then just started pumping so i could have some help durring the night....then he started going into the 2 hour routine when i started using the bottle....good luck...it'll get better

welcome to motherhood!! All babies are different and what he is eating is very normal. Try burping him after about 2 ounces and feeding him some more. If they get too full of air they won't eat as much and they will spit up what they did eat making them hungry more often. I know you are tired but hang in there. Try keeping him awake during the day as much as you can. Don't tippy toe around and if he sleeps more than an hour , wake him up during the day. Then wear him out at the end of the day.and feed him good, hell sleep longer at night.

Breast milk is more filling than formula so he will naturally wake up more than your daughter did because he's not as many nutrients. Also if he spits up alot he will be hungry more often my oldest had Reflux and he ate an 8 oz. bottle every 2 and a half hours and my youngest didn't sleep through the night until he was 15 months old, so I would just feed him when hes hungry and try playing music when he sleeps it helped my boys it actually put them to sleep when I was at wits end, they liked Lincoln Park and Slipknot but that was them .

Babies have their own internal schedule, and eat when they are hungry. Have you tried a pacifier? Sometimes babies just have a need to suck, and we misinturpret it as being hungry. Try a pacifier, and you can also try holding him off with a bottle of apple juice/water mix (one part juice to six parts water) or just try talking to him, get him interested in something else. The purpose would be to get him eating more, less often. But then again, maybe he's just hungry!! Good website to try: babycenter.com

i have 2 boys and 2 girls and my boys ate a lot more than my girls every did... sounds like he is eating just fine....
eating about two to three ounces every two to three hours sounds normal... maybe at his next check-up you might want to talk to his Dr. about maybe putting rice cereal in his night time bottle so he'll slept longer.. some Dr.'s are OK with that... my Dr. did it for my 2 year old at a 1 1/2 months... Congratulations!!!

You baby is 1 month old and you expect to get rest?

You should probably pump some milk and let your husband feed him every other time. You could at least get 3 - 5 hours of sleep at a time. Or maybe switch off entire nights.

My son was up every couple hours when he was that young.
