Some insect made a nest near our driveway, and they come out from holes in the ground. They sting repeatedly, so they are not bees. They are some kind of underground nesting wasp or yellowjacket. They are making it impossible to mow the lawn. How can I safely remove the nest?

Sounds like you have a bad nest of yellow jackets. Personally I don't use anything on my lawn that could possible harm it but yellow jackets are bad news. Watch closely and find out where the holes are. After dark, pour gasoline down the holes and plug them with a stick. You can't do this during the day because they have lookouts. You WILL get stung. If the nest isn't too large, there shouldn't be more than two holes. Good luck and I hope this helps.

the gasoline and fire will rid you of them, but will kill the grass. Just mix a strong mixture of regular Dawn detergent and water and pour it down the hole from a 5 gal bucket! Don't ask me why but dawn kills wasps and bees better than most wasp sprays!

Take a look at the link below. A cicada killer is a wasp that burrows in soft sandy soil. It rarely attacks or is agressive. My dog couldn't stand that these guys were in his yard and tried to dig them up. He bothered them alot but never got stung. They capture cicada's, sting them which will paralyze them. They lay their eggs in the burrow and when the eggs hatch the larva will feed on the cicada.

I always use a 3 lb. coffee can filled about 1/2 way with gasoline. Find all the holes. Around dark, take each can and turn it over on each hole. Those that are trying to get out will be trapped with the can over the hole and die from the fumes of the gas. Leave the cans until the next evening.

This may sound crude, but, first find the nest or nest`s,wait until dark.bee`s cannot see to fly after dark,Pour approx. 1 quart of gas down the hole and lite it.This will destroy the nest permanently.
