I don't want to sound racist, but recent scientific studies have shown that white folk find it quite difficult to trust black people, and vice-versa. So what do you think? Black people, of course your views are welcome too.

It depends on the black person in question. I can understand white people having that thought. I mean look at the following:
1) No Snitching-in the black community it's bad to report crimes?
2) black run school seem to be the worst in education and sometimes excel in sports? We had an entire school district shut down thanks to the blacks in charge stealing and cheating in Wilmer Hutchins, Texas.
3) We always see shootings at black award shows or black radio stations
4) we find more black men with children by different women. I mean come on Shawn Kemp 9 kids by 8 women?
5) we constantly go in and out of jail
6) our kids trust rappers more than educators
7) a lot of white parents won't let a black coach coach thoier kids. Especially in Texas.
So yes I can see why whites wouldn't trust us!

Your question is specific to race but the concept of race is a social construction so then the word trust is constructed as something people configure to mean something that it does not entail.

For example, trust most people associate with what action? money? health? materialistic things? etc. But what is it that is really being asked or entailed? The larger picture proposed is if YOU view someone you trust as your equal? If you do that then means you view someone who you do not trust as an unequal. Can you trust Black people then?

We as Americans still have stereotypes of the other race, religion, culture and so on. As for the relation between African Americans and European Americans, we have to realize that it is true that Blacks are more likely to commit property crime than Whites. But we also have to see that is it that they commit more crimes or is it that we believe so truly that they will commit a crime, that we look for them and wait for them to do it. There is nothing in ANY ONES minds that is programmed at birth that you will be criminals or anything. We are literally all equal at birth, the only thing that separates us besides physical features are economic stance and religion. Also to say is that we as Americans have created this idea of Blacks being criminals so much that it has become a sub-culture itself. Now think of your own heritage. For me, i am half Korean so i have turned towards that culture and have looked for different Korean food i.e. rice and kim che. As to for most of you, you might turn to a part of your families history and embrace it and feel that you almost have to follow it because you are part of it. This could still stand true for Blacks and there tendency to commit crimes. They feel that if they do not then they are somehow denying their limited cultural background because of their departure from Africa. So the stereotypes have become true and have made this barrier of trust for Blacks and Whites.

Racism aside, nearly 80% of all violent and property crime is committed by blacks and Hispanics in the United States (as of 2005 Natioinal Crime Statistics). Now keep in mind that blacks make up only 12% of the total population and Hispanics only 16% (nationwide.) Yet 80% of ALL violent and property crimes are committed by these two groups. Of course not ALL blacks and Hispanics are involved in this behavior but it makes sense to be distrustful of a group that is that prone to criminal behavior. It is socially wise (not racist) to distrust a group with that high a propensity for criminal behavior.

Let me use a simple analogy.

I love to hunt for and catch snakes. I live in sunny southern California where the only poisonous snake is the rattlesnake. Now, granted not ALL rattlesnakes will strike at you or bite you, but the majority have a propensity to be aggressive, therefore I stear clear of ALL rattlesnakes. I don't pick them up, and I don't mess with them. Therefore, I have NEVER been bitten by a rattlesnake. The same can be said of various groups in society. If one or more groups have a propensity for a certain behavior, it is wise to keep that in mind when dealing with them.

I don't know any black people. I live on a small Island and I think there are only a handful of black people here. I don't know what the color of ones skin has to do with trust worthiness.

Some white people find it difficult to trust black people because they have racist feelings towards them (sometimes subconsciously). It does not mean that all black people are untrustworthy. It means that some white people are racist, even if it is just a tiny bit and they know it's wrong.

Yes, I believe that, in general, white people can trust black people, and black people can trust white people. Throw in latinos and asians, while you're at it. There are certainly people out there you can't trust, but you won't be able to pick them out based on the color of their skin.

Well, speaking for myself and all the black people I know...we'd neeeeever steal or be dishonest in any way. I also live in the DC metropolitan suburbs where it seems like MOST people are fairly honest. But I lock all doors and take precautions because I don't who YOU guys are. (by "you guys", I mean the general population.)

I live near Oakland and someone is always getting jacked by someone from the hood. And then again we have these white crack heads that break into cars in our neighborhood. So it doesnt matter the race. Their $hitty people everywhere.
