The baby is not in any danger right now from the Strep-B. As long as the bag of water is in tact, there is no problem.
When the mother goes into labor, her caregiver will give her IV antibiotics to help keep baby healthy. She can request that they be given through a heplock so that she can be unhooked and move around between doses of antibiotics. (Depending on how long her labor is, she may need more than one dose of ABX.)
She can try to help by making sure she gets lots of vitamin C. That will help her grow a strong amniotic sac. The less time the baby spends inside her after the water breaks, the less of a chance of infection for the baby. So if her water can stay in tact as long as possible during labor, that's good.
Also, you should know that Strep-B comes and goes. She could have been positive when tested but could be negative when the baby is born. I was negative with one child and positive with two babies. All were born healthy with no problems. I actually only had the antibiotics with one baby. My other GBS+ labor went too fast for the ABX to be given.
Her caregiver will also give her a list of symptoms to watch for in the baby after the birth to make sure all is OK.

After your sister's water breaks, antibiotics will be administered through the IV. As long as the antibiotics are given there should be no problem. My daughter had Strep B and carried her son low. She went into premature labor two months prior to delivery and had to quit work. She was not on bedrest, just had to take it easy. She delivered a healthy 8lb. boy who is now two and a half months old.

I was strep b positive and you have to make sure she has an antibiotic when she deliveries or it could cause severe probs with the baby. They did not treat me because when i had my son the test was not offered. My son was on I.V antibiotics for 10 days after he was born. It was hell listening to him scream when he blood vessel collapsed and they had to stick him like 20 times and still did not get anther I.V in him. He had to have 4 shots for 5 days. It really sucked.
It can not get it until it is pushed through the birth canal.

It is also my understanding that it is contracted at birth. they put me on an iv when i delivered and kept us in the hospital for two days instead of one just to keep baby monitored. as long as baby eats well and the little body is functioning properly you get to go home on second day. i wouldnt worry about this at all. there's a small small chance that there will be something wrong. doctors are very informed these days and they have great procedures to prevent these things at birth. tell your sister just to enjoy the last trimester of kicks and movements shell miss it when its gone and it goes so fast. if she's really worried tell her to call a nurse at the doctors office and they will help put her at ease. it's really not that big of deal. i haveit and i had two happy healthy babies!

they will give her a anti botic during birth the bub will be perfectly fine. RIGHT NOW HE/SHE IS PROTECTED because of the water sac the baby is sealed UP. sTREP B is very common i've never known of it causing a major problem when it is caught and treated with antibotics.
