I have a cat but would a more exotic pet like a chimp or a bonobo (mini chimp). I am a little unsure about all of the laws and need an easy way to under stand them. My heart is not set on getting a chimp because just about any out of the ordanary pet will work as long as it is leagal.

This is a 'normal' pet with an awesome unusual twist:
A fainting Goat- They are very similar to a normal goat except that when they get frightened they go rigid and 'faint' as a self-defense method. Lots of harmless fun and great conversation starter!
Check them out at: http://www.faintinggoat.com/
Be sure to check local ordinances to see if you are allowed to keep livestock (goats) as pets where you live!
Good luck and have fun!!

No no and no... no chimp. You have no idea what you'd be getting yourself into. Getting a pet just because they're "out of the ordinary" is why there are so many exotic animals either on the loose or euthanized.
Having pets like a chimp or a parrot is like having a four year old child. And, like a child, you better include it in your will because they live a LONG time. They are loud, messy and often aggressive toward other people. I had an African Grey Parrot, which now belongs to my mother because she has more time to spend with her.
Try something a little less exotic. Not trying to be mean. I just know the temptation and the realization.

If you dont live inside city limits then you should be ok to get one, but check with the city chamber of commerce or animal control nearby to find out what regulations they do have about that type of animals you are allowed to have for pets. And make sure it has its hots and stuff if its going to have contact with you or your cat. Maintaining this pet will probably VERY expensive because it is an exotic pet. Do you like iguanas or lizards? That would be a change and its probably easier to obtain one than a trained chimp. And definitely legal. Good luck with the pet search, and dont forget to check with your local pet store first - see what they eat, and how much a cage might cost you.

chimps? try a reptile. they're exotic... yup yup yup! but a chimp is very hard to deal with. it's wrose than having a kid of your own. so yes i will say it's a bad idea.Oohhhhhhhhh... but just go to your local pet stores and find the most exotic thing there buy it. love it and call it chimpy or bonobo. just so you do technically have a chimp and or a bonobo.

Chimps are really difficult to keep outside a zoo. If you're into "exotic" pets, there are some really cool snakes you could easily keep in an apartment but I'd check with your landlord first.

I think it would be cruel to keep a chimp. A chimp needs space to do what it wants. Maybe think about getting something like a parrot?

Why not just get an exotic breed of cat? Get a copy of "Cat Fancy" magazine from your local bookstore or library, and look towards the last few pages for a list of breeders.
