Everyone is right in saying birds are a concern regarding jets. Jet engines are designed and tested to withstand a certain "intake" of birds -- tests are done with carcasses.

But I don't think I've seen a single post about private planes. Birds are certainly a concern for them, too. When I was taking flying lessons, my instructor informed me of the danger. A bird strike in just the right place can be a severe hazard to a small plane, too.

Besides getting sucked into the engines, large birds like swans have caused structural damage (tore off the rear stabilizer of a commercial jet) because they weigh enough (30+ pounds) to cause a tremendous impact. Also some birds fly higher than you would expect. A Griffin vulture was reportedly hit at 30,000 feet.

Bird-strike can cause considerable damage to turbo-prop or turbo fan engines during take off or landing. Also big birds can cause structural damage to the leading edge of the wings if they escape ingestion into the engine. Some birds can cause a hole more than 12 inches in length at certain areas of wing leading edge of the plane. During cruise, bird strike is less likely to occur because the path of all flights ranges between 29000 feet to 41000 feet high a distance at which no birds can possibly reach during their immigration with the exception of some type of eagles who may reach that level at certain times. Newly designed aircraft are now equipped with engines that can withstand bird ingestion without any damage and can continue to flying without reporting an incident whatsoever.

The biggest problem is a bird flying into the engine. When it enters the turbine it could clog it up and cause it to seize or it could destroy it altogether. As far as hitting the windshield, that's pretty much been worked out with better safety glass so it's not really a problem. Except for the bird.

If a bird gets sucked into an engine, it could seriously impact the mechanical efficiency of the engine. If this happens on take-off (along with landing, the most problematic segment of a plane's flight) the results could be catastrophic.

If a bird gets sucked into the turbine blades, it can do serious damage to the engine, and make the plane dangerous to fly, if possible at all.

Actually jet engines are designed to deal rather well with birds being sucked into them, but safety authorities don't take chances if they don't have to!

The jet engines can suck a bird into them, causing damage to the swiftly spinning compressor blades.

New_News is erroneous, a hermit crab isn't much less costly!! you won't have the ability to in straightforward terms throw a crab right into a Kritter Keeper with clean water and a few nutrition and anticipate it to proceed to exist. My first ideal crabitat value nicely over $a hundred to establish; any yahoo can get a miles less costly plastic cage and a jar of nutrition, yet i'm sick and bored to death in seeing people who won't have the ability to make certain why their hermit crabs do no longer stay better than a pair of months!! Any puppy could have an preliminary value; some better than others. as quickly as you get previous that factor, nonetheless, it is all basically upkeep expenses (nutrition, new dishes, vet care, etc.). With hermit crabs, you may desire to maintain high quality ingredients obtainable (ingredients that have not have been given ethoxyquin or copper sulfate in them), ocean water blend (i purchase one bag a 365 days for 2 dozen crabs), and substrate (i take advantage of extreme-high quality aragonite sand, $30 a bag, 4x a 365 days). With ideal care, a hermit crab can stay 20 years or longer; one crabber i understand of has had the comparable 2 crabs for 30!! you ought to get a hamster; yet anticipate to pay out a minimum of $30 for a solid cage, plus the bedding, nutrition, dishes, toys, etc. Hamsters in straightforward terms stay 3-4 years. Rats are companies to maximum cancers. Guinea pigs are better and seem greater exciting than the smaller rodents; yet they simply stay around 7 years. Gerbils also have a life span of three-4 years; and those i've got had weren't as social as our hamsters. no count number what you elect, you may desire to evaluate 2 issues; the 1st being the preliminary setup value, and the 2d being the lifetime value (issues you may desire to pay out over the life of the animal). some smaller animals do require veterinary care; on an identical time as there are others that vets won't touch, like hermit crabs (no longer adequate is usual approximately them medically to make a vet circulate to effective).
