Think of your life in 5, 10, 20 years time when you're still doing it. Imagine a really sorry sight - lonely, you look depressed etc. The more real you make that experience for you the more you tell your brain that these habits are gonna ruin your life and that you've gotta stop. Then imagine your life 5, 10 and 20 years into the future where you aren't biting your nails or cracking your knuckles and imagine that you look impeccable, and basically imagine your perfect life. This too also only works if you can make it real enough. Its not about whether you should change your habits, its a matter of MUST! if you can make breaking your habits an absolute must, you're almost there. Get enough reasons to stop your habits and the rest will fall into place.

It is said that the easiest way to break a habit is to form a new one. So get a new habit, one that is good and not bad. Try keeping your hands busy. How about getting your nails done, you won't want to be biting pretty nails. Have a penalty jar and every time you bite or crack you have to put a dollar in the jar and donate it to some charity when it is full.

I can't help you with the knuckle cracking habit, except to say, ewe, that's gross. As for your nails, try having gel nails put on. They're more natural looking than acrylics. They're also a little more expensive, but worth it in my opinion. Your nails will look nice and manicured, and you can't bite them. Maybe if your nails look nice you won't feel the urge to crack your knuckles either! :o)

Carry around a stress ball and when you get the urge to chew or crack, squeeze instead.
