I have a 12 yr old son, who has ADHD. He is a great kid, wonderful personality, sunny disposition. He has alot of friends and is respectful to adults. He is a C student though and doesn't seem to care how well he does at school. I am worried though because he is a follower. He knows all the dangers of drugs and alcohol. We talk to him about it openly and honestly. This summer at camp he was caught rolling a fake joint with leaves. I worry first about where he learned to do that. Then why? I assume to be cool. But what can I do to stop this before it gets started (I hope it hasn't started)? I have asked my older son (15) to talk to him and try to be a role model and a friend. My husband plans on spending more one on one time with him. Am I over-reacting? What more can I do?

I think you are doing a great job from what you said. Did he actually call it a joint? I don't know, he was just probably trying to be cool, like you said. Keep talking about the dangers of drugs, and watch him like a hawk. You might be over reacting some, but I can certainly understand your worries. I have a 14 yr old Autistic son. I think he would do anything any one told him to do just to make friends. We keep a very sharp eye on him, as does his aid at school. I don't know if you are a person of religion, but I find praying really helps ease my worries. I sincerely hope everything works out for you. It sounds like your son has a good foundation, and usually kids like that never stray too far from what is right.

alright i was twelve once lol. Anyways you say he doesn't care how well he does in school, i don't think any kid really cares how well they do in school. Just make sure his C doesn't drop down to a D and do things to make school, more exciting. About the smoking thing, i think all kids pretend at one point don't get too worried, but still watch him. And yea he might need a role model. Your son sounds like a good kid i don't think he'll make any life threatening decisions.

i would let that roll, it's okay....
don't over-worry yourself about a fake joint. just as long as he doesn't actually pretend to smoke it, and actually knows how to....
everything is alright, my little brother (12 also) has done the same too, (almost exact to your son) and he's okay....
one of his friends smokes and the other one (not really close) is promiscuous.... just as long as he doesn't pick up their habits he'll be okay.
good luck!!!!
