My daughter is 20 months, and should already be well off the bottle. Problem is, she was a preemie, and the Dr. prescribed Pediasure for her for weight gain. (bless her heart, she's still not big enough for a front facing car seat.)

She won't drink it out of a sippie cup or a regular glass for that matter because of the Pediasure smell, and I don't really blame her. I went through the deal of not giving her the bottle and thinking she'd get used to a cup, but we can't afford for her to loose any weight. She will drink regular milk and juice out of an adult glass with a straw, so I don't think I'll have problems with the normal liquids.

I was going to wait until the Dr. takes her off the Pediasure before giving up the bottle completely. Is this a bad decision? If so, what's a better way to give it to her? Serious answers please.

Try the sippy cups that have the straws instead of a sippy spout. They have a lid, so it will hide the smell. If all else feels I would let her take the bottle. Braces later is better than weight loss now. Good luck with your little one.

Try giving her an alternative. She can have her Pedisure in a cup, or water (or some other drink she doesn't like) in the bottle. She'll start chosing the cup.

If it's a matter of her not liking the Pediasure, ask the doctor if it's OK to take her off it for a while to see what happens. She's old enough now where she should be able to gain weight from the food she eats.

If he says no to taking her off the Pediasure, find out if there's an alternative product you can try instead.

Good luck.

Have you tried the sippy cups that have straws. Since she will drink regular milk out of a straw she might the pediasure. The bottle is not good for her teeth, but i know she does not need to lose weight. Good luck.

Wow. My son is 20 months old tomorrow and he is almost off the sippy cup. He also drinks cow's milk and eats whatever my husband and I eat. I'm no doctor, but my instinct tells me that your daughter's problem isn't the bottle (especially if she has the hang of the straw) but maybe the contents of her drink. Could you give her the liquid vitamins and maybe mix the Pediasure with Vitamin D milk? If she's eating well, she shouldn't lose any weight.

Good luck with your little peanut!

Follow your instincts. All babies are different. If you feel better giving her Pediasure in a bottle then stick with it. At least you know she is getting what she needs. Another thing, they now have a formula for older babies, it's called Enfagrow. My son was very picky but he loved this stuff. Talk to you doc, maybe this could be another option. Good luck!

I would keep her on it till the Dr says no more pedisure. Like you said you can't afford for her to lose anymore weight. The problem with the bottle is teeth I think so just make sure you clean her teeth a few times a day. Use a wet washcloth and just scrub them as much as she will let you. You are so lucky to have her just do what ever makes her happy she will adapt when the time is right. Enjoy your baby she will bring you many many wonderful moments..

If she won't drink it out of a sippy cup, then it sounds like the bottle is going to be her only option. I don't think it's a problem. Good luck!!

That definately sounds like a plan. If that is the only way to get her to drink the pediasure.

i waited until my boys were 2 before i took the bottle away and they were not preemies. i don't think it will hurt her one bit emotionally, pyschologically, or physically. i look at it this way, if women can nurse their kids until they are between the ages of 2 & 8 years old, then why can't ours stay on the bottle a little while longer than recommended?

good luck

try giving her a sippy cup with some milk and only give her a bottle at bed time. we done that with my kid and it only took about 1 month. she should not loose weight but talk to your doctor before you do anything.
