VoIP fax does work. You just have to ask your provider if they support it. Vonage supports it and so does SunRocket.

And upon searching their site. Yes, it will support it. You just need to split the line so that you can use fax or the phone. (You can't use both at the same time.)

Phone lines don't plug into cable modems.
Phone lines plug into DSL, ADSL, ISDN and dial-up modems.
if your phone line is plugged into the cable modem, unplug it, it doesn't belong there.
As for the fax machine, ASDL modems usually have 2 jacks, 1 input, 1 extension. the fax/phone can plug in there.
Alternatively, plit the line that goes into your phone, and run a line tothe fax from there.
If you have a VOIP (voice over IP) phone, and it's router is plugged into your cable modem, OR if your cable modem has a VOIP line in it (the only time you should see a phone line in a cable modem), then basically forget it. Fax over VOIP doesn't work.
