this "hood" is to keep flies from eating the horses eyes. like they do all summer long if not protected. not to worry the horses CAN see through the fly mask. the mask's dont impede sight at all! :) thanks for the concern though.

It depends. If the horse is out in the field then it's probably a material that the horse can see threw that keeps flies away from their eyes.

I'm wondering if what you are talking about is a "fly mask". I use them on my horses in summer sometimes, to keep the flies away..they like to go into their eyes, and it drives the horses mad.

Actually it is for the horse to stay focused and have you ever been on a horse when he sees his barn?? He will take off like a rocket, hence the saying, they were running like horses to the barn

Horses get startled easily so they cover their eyes to avoid them being startled. The same thing when they race. They wear goggle looking things that enables them to look at their sides so they wont get scared and stumble over.

The cloth is like a sleeping mask for them. With their eyes completly coverd the cant be distracted by people or flying bugs. So they can sleep easy with that thing on.

Because this helps to keep the irritating flies from landing on their eyes....it is usually a burlap type of cloth that they can see through.

I usually see a bee hive. Silly me! Horsed have their eyes covered, not me! The horces can see thru the material, & it keeps those pesky sweat bees & flies away from their eyes.

Fly masks
The cloth is a mesh and they can see thru it.
It helps protect their eyes from the flys that like to gather on their faces.
