Your best bet is NOT to have two modems — in fact that may not work depending upon your provider(s). Instead, have one modem serve your connection to what's called a router. Then you can connect your computers together into the router (whether with RJ-45 cables or wirelessly with WI-FI technology).

Spend some time on the wikipedia page referenced below. That will help you gain a more full understanding of what's involved in connecting multiple computers with one internet connection.

The cable modem you purchased will likely work fine with your ISP, but you will have to give your ISP the MAC address (and possibly serial number etc) so that they can "Provision" the new modem, assign it an account, and charge you for the service.
The ISP provision every modem that they allow access so that the ser may be properly billed. If you could just buy a modem, hook it up and go, nobody would be paying for cable internet!
What you really want is a ROUTER (ie - Liksys befsr41) which will let your 2 systems share the one connection that you ARE paying for already. The only drawback here is the maximum speed of the modem will be split up between the 2 systems.
With 1 modem per system, you aren't splitting the bandwidth, but you have to pay for 2 accounts.

Unplugging it and plugging it decrease back in will make it renew the IP deal with. appears like the modem went undesirable, call your cable corporation to get a loose alternative. they could be able to attempt it remotely to verify it is malfunctioning.

Roadrunner probably has to add the modem's MAC address to their system to authorize to operate on their network. You should just by a router and use that to share your internet.

You need a router or fast ethernet switch. You can't use 2 modems.
