Get 10 hours of sleep and wake up refreshed. Things will seem a lot better then.

OK, time to face up to your problems, and grow up. If you think you are going insane, you need help from somewhere. Church, a trusted friend, parents, someone who can talk some sense into you. And listen to what they have to say. I did not say drop all your problems on someone and be a burdensome pain, I said sit down and talk. Have a conversation. Thank them, get up and go do what they say.
There are so many help groups out there now, for drugs, alcohol, gambling, divorce, and more. Find one that fits your problems and go. They would recognize how bad your problem is, and would know if local help places are good or bad, because they have been there themselves.
I can't help much more, since I do not know what the colossal mistake was. Consider making the mistake right. If it is a situation where you can apologize, do it. If you robbed a bank, sorry, can't advise you on that one.
If it helps, know that almost everyone has felt like life is spinning out of control at one time or another. People cope with the situations, they do what they can themselves to stop the spinning. And it is a great feeling to be able to persevere though the really bad times. Those that have been there know this.

First of all just calm down. Every body has made a colossal mistake before, I have made a couple myself. Stress will do funny things to you. I would just try to ride it out and see what happens. You really didn't give us much info to go on. If you feel worse tough I'm afraid the best thing is to seek medical attention.

If the mistake is fixable then by all means fix it. If it is not try and determine why you did what you did. Apologize.......sincerely then you must pick up the pieces and move on with your life. We are only human and all make mistakes, some are just bigger than others.

Write it out. Make a list of possible solutions and possible consequences. I would also get away for a weekend- a hotel out of town and turn off the cell phone. You probably need to sit down with yourself for a bit.

What can you do about the situation now? If nothing, move on. If there is something you can do, do it. Decide right now where you want to go and take steps to get there. Do not dwell on past mistakes.

When I started going insane, I just embraced it. Now I'm happily insane and depressed. It's an odd combination.
