I would say no. I have 2 kids, ages 14 & 15, and I've only just started letting them use messenger, and any internet time they have is supervised, and in a family room, not alone in their own room. I think if you are supervised, then it is ok, but most parents don't bother, they let their kids do whatever they want on the internet and it can be dangerous. There are so many perverts out there, that kids need to be protected from them.

Should you have a messenger at 11? No. You shouldn't even be allowed to use the family computer without an adult (preferably a parent) present.

And why should you wait until you are older?

Do you think that you are not ready for what you may see until a certain age? Age is not a scale of experience, just a guideline.

If you have the mental maturity and responsibility to properly handle what may come your way, then take the challenge. It is not life or death, but remember that you should not trust anyone that you do not know.

If your parents are aware and OK with this, and they lock it down so that ignorant and evil people cannot get through to you (only friends and family that have been approved), sure. Otherwise, no.

My 12 year old uses Yahoo messenger, but I have locked out anyone not on her "List", and I check that list every week for strange names.

I think there are better things to do as an 11 year old than spend time at a computer. You might get stuck at one when you're older, so don't do it now. Go have fun and do kid things. I'm a young adult, and wish I did more and a pre teen.

well........... my granddaughter is 9 and she's doing ok with it. As long as there's no camera involved and you let your parents read messages that do not come from your friends and be very aware of this, I think it's ok, but like I said, do not answer to anyone you don't know and tell your parents right away,,,this is an absolute MUST because there's a lot of strange and devious people out there. So be very aware!!!

You mean yahoo messenger? It depends, shouldn't you be over 13 to use it according to the terms of use agreement, unless you have parental permission?

i got messenger when i was 9, but that was only because i move a lot and it was the only way i could talk to my friends (thanks to yim, i've had the same best friend for 5 years without ever seeing her again.) so yeah, it should be okay, as long as you dont talk to people you dont know.

you should learn how to spell before using messenger. Then only if your parents know who you are talking to and can be tentative to the conversations.
