A learner's permit is valid for one year. After one year, the learner's permit can be renewed for another year for a fee of $5.00.

Why do you need to renew your permit? Why not just take the drivers' test? (In AL we can take the drivers' test 6 mo after having permit, if that's not the case up there, sorry)

You just go to the Department of Motor Vehicles and pay for a renewal.
