I work for a small company in the media industry, where we write news summaries.
- It's home based, the boss's wife is a control freak. They have 17 cats (most of them black) and the boss's wife treats the cats with more respect than she does the workers. She talks and laughs with the cats. When we ask her questions, she snaps at us
-The boss's wife fired people when they asked where our vacation pay is or if they asked for a raise
- The workers are forced to work in the basement with no scheduled breaks. The cat litter box is right next to us in the basement (which stinks when the cats use it). Whenever the cats see us eating food, they always try to steal our food from us
- The neighbourhood cats sneak into the house and get in fights with the house cats
- The cats try to 'mate' in front of us
- RACOONS come in through the cat door, sift through the kitchen garbage and eat the cat food
- it's 89.6 degrees Fahrenheit but no fan
Okay, do u think my work place is weird?

Call the health department and get out. This is not a place i would recommend anyone working. Besides being unsanitary and disgusting, the rudeness alone would have cause for leaving.
GET OUT

Yes, it's very strange, and sounds highly illegal in a lot of respects. Check OSHA requirements and labor laws (state labor board website) for your area. I don't know how many people you have working there, but since you're all working on-site, you are entitled to "Employee" benefits, vacation pay, etc. (I'm guessing you might be paid as "indie contractors" too?)
Firing someone without making full payment of compensation owed at the time, including vacation pay, within 72 hours is serious and carries a stiff fine.
Personally, I don't think animal lovers can be all bad, and I have no issue with the cats other than the litter boxes SHOULD be cleaned, certainly, if people are near them.
You can have the Labor Board in your state investigate and take up the fight on your behalf. The good news is, if you go that route, it doesn't cost you anything. The state will handle it.

Very!!! Haven't you thought about quitting? Not only you have to deal with Cat lady, there is a clear risk to your health and safety with all the cats, racoons, etc. There must be some regulations they have to comply with. I would check with the city.

Geez! Wierd & wrong! Turn them in to every agency you can think of! Is this company in the States? It sounds as if you're in the Philippines. If that's the case, no luck will come turning them in to anyone! Maybe you should come by my office & bring your resume.

No this is perfectly normal, but if she gets an 18th cat you better run. Run like the wind and don't look back.

Please, it isn't the fault of the cats. I can understand the lady loving cats. But the rest sounds wrong.
