If you look at the travel web sites, you'll see these cities appear in the top categories:

Paris, France: Probably the most lovely city I've ever visited, especially in the spring season and in the summer evenings.

London, England: Where else can an English-speaking person from the USA go and see tombs of kings with years in 3 digits, like the year 900? In the USA there are not many homes or tombstones left with dates from before the year 1492). The whole king/queen thing and the quaintness of the city makes it a winner.

Munich, Germany: Beautiful city with friendly people and wonderful beer gardens. English is a second language, making it a comfortable visit for Americans.

New York City, USA: The financial power-house of the world with all the tall buildings to prove it. Sometimes I work in NYC and you can feel the positive creative energy of the people around you.

Tokyo, Japan: Another financial power-house with the added attraction of uniquely Japanese things like tea gardens.

Berlin, Germany: The destination of choice for people who like museums. Berlin has more museums than any other city, by a wide margin.

If you're planning a trip and you're not sure where to go, consider some other alternatives: A trip to the Caribbean, especially in the winter, is wonderful and rivals many other exotic destinations.

Have fun!

A friend recommended Dalat in Vietnam to me. ' went there last Feb and it was totally a whole new thing for me.

It's a small community where the French influence is very prominent. I love the ambience, the pace and the colors. Also loved the way Viets bounced back after the trauma of Vietnam War.

Nothing tops Vietnamese food. I plan to come back this December where they will have their flower feast. Although they say it can get real cold during that time.

Unfortunately, my travels have been limited.
But from where I've been, here's where I'd choose as favorite:

United States - San Francisco.
Diverse culture, great food and wine, spectacular scenery, fresh sea breezes and cool temperatures year-round.

Canada - Toronto.
Ultra modern city, nice people, cool-to-cold climate.

Germany - Munich.
My birthplace and a very hip, modern city with a strong connection to its past.

France - Reims.
Heart of the champagne region. Excellent food (and wine!). People actually very nice (for French).

Great Britain - Dover, Kent.
Many great places in the U.K., but I love the coastal view along the channel. Plus, great fish-n-chips.

Bosnia - Tuzla.
War torn, but very, very friendly people. A depressed village with lots of history and beautiful rolling hills.

Italy - Lake Garda.
Beautiful northern Italian lake area.
Of course, fantastic food, wine and people.

Austria - Innsbruck.
Love the mountains...reminds me of the scenery in "The Sound of Music"...and spectacular cultural center.

Switzerland - Lucerne.
Mega WOW city. A must-go place, when in Europe.
