as some of you know that there is a law suit by the sex offender for moving away from school bus stop.
The distinction is important. Attorneys seeking to overturn a provision of the new law banning convicted sex offenders from living within 1,000 feet of a school bus stop argued that it’s virtually impossible for sex offenders to live anywhere in Georgia that doesn’t violate the law. Witnesses at the hearing testified that sex offenders could no longer reside in DeKalb County, and in much of the rest of the state, where there may be as many as 350,000 school bus stops, the attorneys said.

I am praying that schr.org and the ACLU are winning. That is my daily prayer. I feel comfortable in the fact that Judge Cooper has made the statement already that this is Unconstitutional. Therefore, I believe we will have a victory!

One thing they may want to use as part of the defense strategy is the little 4 year old girl that was grabbed out of her Aunts arms last week. She was grabbed by a person that didn't reside in that town. Therefore, being a mobile society, what is to keep that from happening again?

The truth is that Sexual Predators make up a very small portion of the registries. The others on the registries are not a threat to anyone. The majority have families. Along with this Law in GA if we don't have a victory, there are going to be people that own their homes and will have to sell them, there will be people that rent that will have to default on their rental agreement and that will go on their credit. This is all wrong. These people have been convicted ONE TIME and have lived honest, productive, non criminal lives since. Some are 20 years ago and more.

If I lived in GA, and not near a bus stop or any of the other restrictions, I would make a place for these families. Why? Because I know the TRUTH instead of the myths. I KNOW they wouldn't harm me or my family. Just too bad I don't live there with a big plot of land!

Please go to the links I have placed in the Sources section and learn the truth.

I've been to GA and there are plenty of places that are remote enough for your people to live without being anywhere near children. Constitutionally, the law you are talking about and others like it are on thin ice. No doubt they will be overturned in some states. One just cleared the federal appeals circuit in the Midwest (I don't recall which state although I'm sure the ruling will be cited in upcoming challenges.) That one will lay the groundwork for defending the laws in other states so it will be a tough battle for your side.

You failed to ask any question other than "who's winning?" so I will answer that the lawmakers are currently winning. They have the provisions in question in GA and have won appeals in other states. I've read about some challenges to local ordinances that have resulted in those ordinances being put on hold pending review but as far as I know almost all state laws have been holding water through the appeals process.

Sorry I don't have any internet sources for you. If you had any qualifications to discuss sex offender laws outside your experience as an offender I may have been prone to dignify your demands for sources. Good luck with the relocation.

AS FAR AS IM concerned SEX offenders whether adult or child offenders HAVE LOST SOME RIGHTS BECAUSE OF WHAT THEY DID..also yes as a reasonable person.. I realize our govt. is still trying to figure out which punishment will HOPEFULLY GOD WILLING make the offenders STOP! but at the same time protect our children from the ones who still offend..WHO STILL make it their LIFE quest TO KEEP offending..
o and checked out your profile on this site... do you not understand that sex offenders SHOULD lose there opportunity to re- offend.. i would think you do as YOU SELF DESCRIBE YOURSELF AS AN EX SEX OFFENDER... whats that? your way promising me that your not one any more?.. HOW WILL I KNOW THIS if the law still needs to catch up with the OFFENDERS!

P.S. not mad at you directly but yes at the whole ugly truth of it all... the offenders having their rights compromised while trying to protect the victims..PROTECTING THE VICTIMS would STILL BE my FIRST PLAN tho ..

p.p.s. YES I do realize your second answer for this q has to be
like yourself another of the supporters in advocating for the rights of the offenders.. by seeing this persons profile and q+a list...
BUT i believe and HOPING that we all are on the same page regarding that there are rights THAT SHOULD be taken away from offenders AND AN INCREASE in victims rights... future or past..
I agree there is still this battle of comprimise in the law that is too scattered between states and federal levels..

lets just pray we all come together for the sake of the victims -whether they themselves have been violated and the people who love them
or it being the other victims -which are the offender's families that now also have been put thru hell too.
