Your body is already screwed up. Take the prescription. Hypothyroid means your thyroid is already too slow, so taking the tapazole will speed it up to normal.

No, you won't gain weight from tapazole. But not taking it and your thyroid continues to slow down will not only cause weight gain but other more serious health problems.

I haven't heard taking methimazole/tapazole for hypothyroid,
it's usual a prescription for hyperthyroid?! If the dose is not adequate the thyroid is not turned off and so the smoldering inflammatory process in your thyroid can still sputter on. In which case it is possible for you to become hyperthyroid. However this is not common and most times it is transitory. That is the hyperthyroidism will die off by itself.
I would question your doc, why you were put on your medication not syntroid or thyroxine or something comparable.
I don't like pill popping myself being hypothyroid but
I'm searching for better answers. I use levothyroxine.

you should have gotten a list of side effects when you got your prescription. Your doctor must think that the benefits out weigh the side effects. If you feel that uncomfortable about taking it then talk to your doctor asap because remember he gave you the prescription for a reason

The dangers of not taking the medication outweight the low incidence of side-effects, which could include, but are not common: skin rash, itching, abnormal hair loss, upset stomach, vomiting, loss of taste, abnormal sensations (tingling, prickling, burning, tightness, and pulling),swelling, joint and muscle pain, drowsiness dizziness, decreased white blood cells, and decreased platelets.

It can only do you harm if you overdose, take the prescribed dose and ask for a test to verify that your blood thyyroid hormone level is normal again, you have to start taking it though.
