Average life span is around 10 years, but the can live past 15 years occasionally. It's important that they be kept in pairs or in herds or they will be very noisy and get into all kinds of trouble. They need VERY sturdy fencing as they can fit through spaces smaller than you would ever imagine, they can jump higher than you would ever think possible, and when they get out they will eat all your flowers and shrubs and climb on your car. If you have the appropriate facilities they make awesome pets. They love to have things to climb and are extremely entertaining to watch. You can train them to walk on a leash (you can either buy a small halter meant specifically for goats or just use a dog collar) if you start when they are young. If they are on pasture that's all they need to eat during the summer and you only have to make sure they have plenty of clean water and they will be happy. They love to eat weeds and will keep your pastures and fence rows clean of weeds that other animals won't touch. In the winter time they will eat any kind of hay and they like some grain once in a while but will do just fine without it. They don't require a lot of vet care, just routine vaccinations and wormings, and occasionally they may need their hooves trimmed if they don't have a big enough area to wear them down themselves. Overall they are very easy to care for and very entertaining pets.

Pygmy goats (Capra hicus) are small in stature weighing about 35-50 lb (23–34 kg) for females and about 40-60 lb (27–39 kg) for males. First imported into the United States in the 1950s from Africa, these small goats are popular for pets and exhibition. Although they produce a large quantity of milk for their size and can be eaten, pygmy goats are not typically used for the production of milk or meat, unlike larger dairy and meat goat breeds. Pygmy goats tend to be hardier and breed more throughout the year than either dairy or meat goats. Pygmy goats have stomachs with four compartments: the rumen, the reticulum, the omasum, and the abomasum. As browsers, goats are similar to deer and enjoy variety in their diet, including woody plants

It'll become a lot shorter if I see one and I've got my gun/slingshot on me.
