yes, they send a letter to your former employer to see why you are no longer employed there. they d this to prevent people from working the minimum amount of time needed to claim, then quitting to get unemployment for the maximum amount of time, then starting the process again. unemployment is supposed to be for people who are laid off or seperated from their job through no fault of their own. also in some states the employer has to maintain an account that your benefits are charged against.

It depends upon how long ago you worked for them and what state you live in.

If the employer you are asking about is your most recent one, and it's been a relatively short period of time, they WILL be notified. If it was a previous employer to the most recent one and some time ago, they may or may not be notified if it has been more than 18 months.

Yes, the employer will get a notice about it. I work for a company in Miami, FL. One former employee filed for unemployment benefits and we got a letter.

They will contact the last employer who reported wages for you. They will verify with them the reason why you left the company so make sure to be truthful or you may be disallowed benefits if you lie. Most employers will challenge a claim for benefits if the reason for separation is false.
