99 sunfire gas gage?

Question

When my gas get empty the gas gage points to full and when i put gas in the gage goes down to 1/2 or lower does any one know what the problem is?

A couple of things can cause this -- wiring problem or sending unit. The most common fuel gauge problem is the sending unit. Unfortunately, it's also the most difficult to change yourself, as it's located inside the gas tank.
