I would put a check on the US Supreme Court. There is no Check or Balance to a Supreme Court decision. The judges on the high court make their rulings, in effect creating judge-made law, and there is no one to overturn the Court's decisions - when many of them amount to nothing more than experiments in social engineering. There is nothing to stop this activity of the Supreme Court and it's high time that we rectified that situation. Fix the law and everything else will fall into place. So long as the law is used as a weapon and a corrupt tool to manufacture social engineering, there is truly no justice.

Wow, what a question and what possibilities. I don't know if I would actually change anything in the government, I would just like a change of the people IN the government. Our country is set up in a great way, but the politicians that are supposed to uphold the constitution are becoming irresponsible and are more obsessed with forcing their beliefs and changing things around to suit them.
I guess if I HAD to change something, it would be Bush's tax cuts that have only helped the wealthiest 2% of the country. I haven't seen any improvement in my life...contrary to what the conservatives would TELL me about MY life. My whole family was in a lot better shape during the Clinton years. My father has had the same job and my mother actually has a better government job than she did in the '90's, yet they STILL are struggling more than they ever did...actually, I don't recall them ever struggling during Clinton's presidency. The same goes for my mother-in-law. My grandfather voted republican ever since he was 18...until George W. Bush came around...now he votes democrat. That's how successful the President has been...he turns stubborn old men against him.
I'm a legal citizen...born and raised in Ohio (I'm a blue fish in a red ocean). Same as my parents and their parents before them.

Change to a Parliamentary System of Government, That would permit ouster on a vote of confidence, force Members of the Cabinet to be elected individuals, and get rid of the stupid Electoral College.

1. Line Item Veto. This hopefully will ge rid of all that "Pork" going thru these Bills that they pass.
2. Term Limits for all Senators and Representatives. How long can somebody like Ted Kennedy be in office? You can't say that he doesn't receive any kick backs. It is a big joke. I justed used him as an example. There are plenty more out there.

Only one, huh?
Well, I would first oust Bush from office. Impeach him and put him on trial to the fullest extent of the law for all the things he's done. Him, and his cabinet.
If I couldn't have that, I'd do away with income tax. It was supposed to be temporary anyway. Let the government find new ways to fund itself and stop relying on its people to feed it money to waste.

you must have money in order to enter politics in this country. there are no two ways about it. you either must be able to finance your own campaign, or you must be willing to accept quid pro quo campaign financing from people who do have money. even if you do finance your own campaign, the simple fact that you had the money to do so demonstrates just how much you value dollars. are such people likely to stand firm in the face of lavish gifts and offers of more money? it does not seem likely.
the answer is to publically fund all elections. we have got to get the money out entirely. war chests are a ridiculous concept. they are representations of how much a politician intends to bend the rules. they are insurance against going to prison for doing so. none of them ever suffer much for their sins. and the hypocrisy of the crimes of the more sanctimonious members of the government is astounding.
duke cunningham won his elections by being tough on crime, for example. that didn't seem to slow down his own criminal behavior. he plea bargained out of a life sentence. the courts showed him mercy after he repeatedly campaigned for draconian sentencing for the public at large.
the people have not had access to power in some time. that is the first thing we must change if this is to remain a democracy.
still not interested in taking any loyalty oaths though, thanks! if my words are true, it shouldn't matter where i was born or where i live now.

I think the biggest and most powerful change is that every politician should have their raises voted on my their constituants. When we hold our political servants accountable by clutching the pocket book, they will be more compelled to answer to the voice of the people.
