Hey everyone. This is not a quetions, but PLEASE READ IT. Gas prices are killing everyone. But we can't just stop using gas, it is a NEED that everyone has. We need gas to get around, we need it for cars, street bikes, dirt bikes, and much more. But there is a way to fight the prices. If everyone stops buying gas from Mobil and Exxon (the two largest gas companies in the world) they will take a huge hit. Just think you probably spend 100 dollars or more a month on gas. So think if 300 people stopped buying that from mobil and exxon that is 30000 dollars they lose, but if the whole contry stops, that is even more money. So spread the news, don't buy from mobil or exxon. If their prices go down, everyone will follow suit. PLEASE HELP!!! FIGHT THE GAS WAR!!!

You are not listening people. If we stop buying gas from the "bug guy" they will lost money and have to lower their prices, if other companies do not follow suit, then we can guy from mobil and exxon once they drop down in prices signifcantly, and i have taken economic classes, and this would work! Trust me, if you notice, at least around me because around here a lot of people have stopped buying from mobil and exxon the mobil stations are lowering prices to below 2.90 a gallon. So it is working here in good old NH... try it there

wow. that is an amazing concept, but it will never work. if we stop buying from mobil or exxon, then we will have to buy some where else, if the number of customers suddenly rises then those other stations must raise their prices to afford the higher amounts they need, so that'd just be raising the price of other gas stations. sorry.

Honey... I don't really have a choice. Those two companies have the highest prices is right and I NEVER EVER go there for anything but cigaretts! I get Gas at race trac, BP, or Hess... WHich are the cheapest so I suppose if everyone else cares about spending money, I don't think people are going there anyway.

If you don't buy from Exxon or Mobil, the other companies will since the demand for their gas would be higher and they don't have the supply.

This approach ignores basic economics. This has been circulated a number of times, and has been addressed by Snopes.com. A key part of the analysis:

Economics Prof. Pat Welch of St. Louis University says any boycott of "bad guy" gasoline in favor of "good guy" brands would have some unintended (and unhappy) results.

. . . Welch says the law of supply and demand is set in stone. "To meet the sudden demand," he says, "the good guys would have to buy gasoline wholesale from the bad guys, who are suddenly stuck with unwanted gasoline."

So motorists would end up . . . paying more for it, because they'd be buying it at fewer stations.

And yes, oil companies do buy and sell from one another. Mike Right of AAA Missouri says, "If a company has a station that can be served more economically by a competitor's refinery, they'll do it."

Right adds, "In some cases, gasoline retailers have no refinery at all. Some convenience-store chains sell a lot of gasoline — and buy it all from somebody else's refinery."

Think about it. If we all stop buying gas from the two biggest companies, will the other companies have enough gas to supply all of the cars? No.

What would happen is that ExxonMobil (they merged) would just sell their gas to the other stations and we'd be right back where we started.

If you want to make them hurt, buy a fuel efficient car or drive less.

I have already boycotted Exxon because of that story about the retirement package of millions of dollars that they gave that executive. I don't go to Mobil gas stations either.

Just buy a more efficient mode of transportation. Not buying from Mobil/Exxon doesn't help anything.

This won't help because the demand for other companies will go up leading to even higher prices....take an economics class before you spout such idiotic ideas..

This suggestion is pure nonsense - there will be no effect at all as long as the consumption does not drop.
