Because Materazzi called Zidane an Algerian terrorist and also told some abusive words against his sister and mother, that too at the time when Zizou's mother is in hospital because of some serious illness. Really he should have been red-carded first for this unworthy behaviour.
I think though Italy won the world cup, Zizou won the hearts of the whole world(except Italy) eventhough he was red-carded.

because zidane cant take an insult like a man. instead of using his anger to play a more aggressive game, he lost control of himself and caused himself to get a red card. it was a childish move on both parts but if you cant control youself, you shouldnt be out on the field.

Because he said bad words that do not need to be said while playing a professional sport.
He should have been red carded also for bad sportsmanship like conduct!!!
He should apologize to the sports world for his inappropriate words!
