YES!
Many families are this way and they become angry if you don't, even if it is something such as they are angry with someone so they don't want you to be friendly with them even though that individual has never done anything to you for you to respond in this matter.

This is a control issue many families impose on the family unit, and this stifles individual growth and maturity.

My father is the head of the household, and requests are polite orders. Fortunately, Dad does care about what's best for us-- occasionally oppressively (bike helmets are annoying, and I didn't mind getting thrown by a friend's horse, but I'm not allowed to ride that horse anymore)-- but sensibly. We don't always like it, and he's not above the delivery of a regular bear-garden jaw, but I think it's best this way. If I don't go to heaven, it won't be Dad's fault.
Mom has less authority, but that's because she's too lenient. We are supposed to do as she says, and if she has to ask twice in Dad's presence we're in trouble, but she's not in charge so much; we take longer to get off the comp when she tells us to than when Dad says it.
I wouldn't say we're prisoners. We haven't many friends, but that is no trial, considering that there are four of us and we're in the same house all day-- it's not our parents' fault, anyway. The main obstacle to visiting friends is when they can't play or aren't home.

Of course MOST want you to do what they say - sometimes they are right - sometimes they dont understand what drives you personally - best choice is to think about what they say - they might have a good reason for it....but ultimately it is your decision to follow thier advice or do your own thing....just make sure its what will make you happy/better person and not get into too much trouble.

I prefer not to place myself in such a position as a door matt.but most often family structure is that way until God is made head of the family and everyone is brought under His Will and not the whims of the winery.

No!!!!!!!!!! I am the youngest in my crazy family, but I'm a leader. I will be the first to graduate college. I take the initiative on everything I do. No one tells me what to do, I'm my own person.

No, and I don't believe you are either. Nobody gets to do anything the want whenever they want. Wise up.
