just so you are clear what routine neonatal circumcision looks like:
http://ftp.intact.ca/images/new025.mpeg
it is immoral when it is done routinely, as only 1 in 10 000 men will need their foreskins cut off IF they get the ONLY medical problem that foreskin removal MIGHT treat: BXO
you are right to question the morality of it
it is the immorality of FEMALE circumcision which got female circumcision banned, that's why i'm campaigning on here to have MALE circumcision banned, and that's why this bill was introduced in february:

It is the cutting off of the skin "hood" that naturally covers the head of the penis. The practice originated during biblical times, at which time it was done as a religious ritual "mandated" by God; much the same as not eating pork is mandated. In reality the ritual served a practical purpose, as personal hygiene was not well practiced at that time, it helped to prevent illness and the spread of disease by allowing the penis to be kept clean more easily.

The reason I chose to have both of my boys circumcised is due to personal preference. My husband was circumcised and he planned on showering with them and having to explain why their parts look different would be too hard for someone to understand. But the main reason is because in college my husband had a roommate who was not circumcised and sex was painful for him cause the excess foreskin would get pulled and it was SO sensitive that it was painful to wear under ware that would touch it.

For Jews, it is a religious ceremony. But it is also healthier since the penis is easier to clean and less likely to develop a disease.

In some religions it is manditory!! But mostly done because the extra skin can cause infections and a bad smell. It is cleaner. Also....more attractive to a woman!

Removal of the foreskin from the penis. It is done for religious and social reasons. It used to be performed for hygenic reasons but it has been proven that foreskin is not "dirty" if cleaned properly.

I think studies have shown it is more hygenic to be circumcized. There are ancient religious and cultural reasons for it as well.
