Lucky you.

You have what's called a "Mercury" dime, which ended production in 1945. It's made of mostly silver, having been made before 1965 (when most of the silver was replaced by copper).

The average buying price for a Mercury dime is usually between $5 and $10 U.S. Keep this dime unless you plan to sell it.

Dimes, Quarters, Halves and Silver dollars minted in 1964 or before actually contained silver. Your dime will not put you on easy street, but it's worth more than $0.10, just because of the silver content. The guy above who offered you a quarter is probably just about fair.

The Mercury dime you have is worth more than a quarter. If it is in near mint condition...collectors would pay a hefty price. Have it checked out by a coin dealer near you.
