I'd go with restaurant work because its easy to learn on the job and it opens up doors to alot more possibilities - there are so many different types of restaurants you can work with. You could even work in one frequented by people in your chosen career which gives you a leg up when you are finally ready to start. Restaurant work rarely pays well though - if your lucku the tips may help but that said, the hours tend to be more reasonable and the work lighter than say, fliering or fundraising. (both of which I've done as well!!)

You don't say how old you are, but if your are a mum and need to be at home then why not try Avon. They give you a section in your area so you don't really have to go do hard sell. Its a self-employed own business thing, if you like meeting people and are good with them, this is ideal.
