Music, when written out is on music sheets. Almost all music is written in a certain time - 4/4, 3/4, 5/8
This means 4 beats per bar, 4 bars per phrase. (4/4)
Think of a phrase of music like a whole sentence and bars as thoughts that make up the sentence.
Try this:
Tap a slow beat at about 1 beat per second.
Then sing Row Row Row Your Boat in time to your tapping.
Each line you sing is a bar, and the whole first verse is a phrase. You will end up with 16 beats.
So when a rappers say he or she contributed a few "bars" on a song, it usually means a few lines of lyrics.
This does not include backing vocals, or sampled parts from other songs.

Most music is in 4/4 time, meaning that there are four beats per bar. (I've never heard a rap song that wasnt' in 4/4 time). So, on that song, when you count one-two-three-four, that's one bar.
If you look at sheet music, there are vertical lines every so often, the notes in between two vertical lines represents one bar.
a few bars means, he probably did 5 or 6 seconds.

The notes of music comprising a song are called bars. so he basically played a few lines of music, but not the whole song.
