Swimming is great exercise and most OB's recommend it for soreness and fatigue. She's fine to swim (the water and what's in it wont get into her uterus unless her water breaks- but that's way later-, and the beach is ok too, just make sure she's aware of the temp- if she's too hot so's the baby), it's the other party activities she needs to stay away from! Have fun and tell your friend Congratulations!

Swimming is actually recommended while you are pregnant. It is good exercise and since we are buoyant in water, it can take some of the pressure off the pelvis, hips and back later in pregnancy.
Just a word of caution -- if you have your own pool don't swim when you are 9 months pregnant! The nesting instinct kicks in big time! LOL I spent 3 hours scrubbing the pool and it didn't even need it! :)

Swimming is just fine. It's actually a really great way for pregnant women to get exercise. The buoyancy of the water makes it easier for them to move around and it's low impact.

Yes, but no jumping or diving, and you have to remember to limit your time in the sun, my doctor told me that when your pregnant your hormone's will cause you to burn 10 times faster than you would if you weren't pregnant. He also told me that only be in the sun 1 hour at a time, then rest, drink lot's of water, and go back in. But be careful of dehidration, if you get dehidrated it can send you into early labor. I'm speaking from experience.

When I was pregnant, my OB Dr. said that is was fine to go swimming in a pool, but not to go in a whirpool tub or jacuzzi because of the bacteria & germs that it holds. But to be safe, I would call her Dr.

Unless specifically directed by a doctor not to participate in that type of activity, yes. It's actually one of the best ways to excercise during pregancy. Less shock on the joints and it feels great to be a bit less bulky for a few minutes.
