I believe its because the guest is believed to outshine the bride. "Town and Country" magazine style writer Pamela Fiori explains her opinion of your color options in the iVillage article I've sourced below. Ruth Kern, an international etiquette consultant, says much the same thing. Honestly? I think in today's age of etiquette, wearing white wouldn't be inappropriate as long as you don't go overboard with it. (A friend of mine complained about a relative who wore an ankle-length white dress with elbow-high white gloves.) Also, add some color with jewelry, a wrap, jacket, or some other accessory to tone down the white.

Uhh, because the bride is wearing white!!! Its her big day, and it would be rude if all the eyes were on you instead of her. Its not an old wives tale, trust me.

Normally.. the bride is the only one who wears white.. so be careful not to select anything that might cause anyone to mistake you for the bride. As you shop, keep in mind that fashions are sleeker, and many older and second time brides dress in wedding suits. If you plan to wear white, choose carefully, and accessorize with color.

They used to say you were competing with the bride. I don't think that it holds true anymore. But, if I were going to wear white to a wedding(not being the bride) I think would choose an off-White, winter white, or creamy white and set it off with some color. Good luck and have a good time!

Because the bride most usually wears white, and to wear white as a guest would be viewed as detracting from the bride. And, I assume, the same thing would go for the groom. Hope that helps. ;)

no person however the bride could positioned on white. that's amazingly rude for a concentrated visitor to positioned on white to a marriage. Her gown wasn't all white, yet rather on the factor of it. The bride, groom, possibly the marriage occasion could in straightforward terms be in white. in maximum circumstances it is basically the bride and now and back the flower woman, the groom and groomsmen positioned on black tuxes, and white shirts. Plus, if a brides gown is off white, or ivory and your status next to a concentrated visitor in white, it makes the brides gown seem grimy, it isn't large for photos.

Only the bride wears white and it disrespectful to take attention away from the bride and groom. If the dress is white, add color with a wrap, jewelry, purse and shoes.

usually on that day, the bride is the one wearing the white and everyone respects that day for the bride. it's more of a social etiquette than a requirement.
