It is so easy to say yes because of this one incident. But overall for his performance and leadership, I say no, he deserved the award. Italy won, France did not, Zidane was sent off, Materazzi was not. Evens out in the end. But if they do, Materazzi should be stripped of his medal if there is any evidence at all that he was in fact the instigator. Italy will still have the cup. Physical actions are wrong but comments like alleged made by Materazzi have no place in the game either. Plain and simple there is no place for either action or behaviour if we want football to remain a game played and won with skill.

No way .
He earned it . What a good player Zidane is !!!!
I think the Italians should give back the world cup to France .
The Italians don't deserve the world cup and don't deserve the golden ball . I'm very disappointed in that Italian bull......

NO! he derserves the golden ball award, i mean HE DID EARN IT >>> HE WAS THE BEST PLAYER WITH THE SCORING.... so i PERSONALLY think zidane DESERVES the ball, even if the incident did happen.

should zidane be stripped off the golden ball award?
--------------------------------------------------------------
Zidan is an Arab/Muslim. If he was a Jew,he would have been crowned king of the world and seeked compensation for anti Semitic comment from the Italian ham.

No way- he's a terrific player, he just made a bad choice. It's not like he did it for no reason at all; that Italian player did insult his family, which I understand is a sore point for him. It wasn't a good decision, but his good moments far outweigh the bad ones.

Yes... it was a violent act...not just a retaliation... a champ like him should have known better to control himself and exit the world-cup as a clean champ !

i'm still very disappointed in him. so, i'm tempted to say, yes. ...but, w/o zizou's leadership and heart, france would not have been the team it was in 2006.

...i say, if FIFA forces him to relinquish the golden ball, then FIFA also needs to penalize Marco Materazzi.

Were he stripped we might be able to countenance those purportedly golden balls of his.

naw. he was the best player. if they wanted to take the award away from him, they should have done it after the game.
