Well, to be really safe start taking them asap, because its always good to be overcatious when it comes to these things. Otherwise, it takes about a week for birth control to become completely effective and in the system, so I would say that you should start it at least 7 days before you go there. You really need to talk to a doctor about it though, I assume you will be getting the pills through your physician or at planned parenthood with a nurse practitioner, and they will explain any and all questions you have about the pill, and will instruct you on how to properly take it. You might want to consider the fact that most birth control pills are started the first Sunday AFTER your PERIOD. This is so the pills are on the right schedule with your body and that your period will come again at the correct time 28 days later during the inactive pills. Keep this in mind, and just get them really soon, preferrably before your next period. I am glad you are going on birth control because the withdrawl method is not very safe! Good luck.

There are many ways of taking birth control. Here is one of the ways for more info look at the site.
Over the course of 1 year, 5 to 8 out of 100 typical couples who rely on the Pill to prevent pregnancy will have an accidental pregnancy. Of course, this is an average figure and the chance of getting pregnant depends on whether you take your birth control pills every day. The Pill is an effective form of birth control, but even missing 1 day increases the chance of getting pregnant.
In general, how well each type of birth control method works depends on a lot of things. These include whether a person has any health conditions or is taking any medications or herbal supplements that might interfere with its use. For example, antibiotics or an herb like St. John's wort can interfere with the effectiveness of the Pill. How well a particular method of birth control works also depends on whether the method chosen is convenient — and whether the person remembers to use it correctly all the time.

If what you mean by the whole "withdraw" thing is that he pulls out - you're sadly mistaken. You are still very capable of getting pregnant even if he does not ejaculate inside of you. There is something called pre-ejeculation and the man doesn't even know when it happens, but it can get you pregnant. If you're aren't aware of these things, then you are either too young or to naive to be having sex in the first place.

You should start taking some kind of birth control NOW, it takes around 1 week to get spread. I would recommend to use the nuva ring is the best cause it doesn't have much hormones.

Talk to your dr and the withdraw method does not mean you cannot get pregnant. Best to use a condom. Ask yourself do you want to risk a pregnancy, can we afford a baby or what if I catch a disease. Those are questions you need to ask yourself especially since it looks like you are in a long distant relationship.

I believe the doc is going to tell you about 6 weeks - and he's going to tell you that the only thing 100% effective is not doin it at all. The pill is only 99% effective - withdrawl is less effective then that.

One month, but make sure you take it everyday the same time of the day! If you miss one day! Use protection, because you can get pregnant.
