It would seem to me that if we protect the unborn of other species, we would protect our own. Why can a drunk driver be charged with the killing of a fetus in an accident? Isn't the fetus a life then, if a drunk driver can kill it.

Do all fetuses become humans when they come to term?

So a fetus, if you can kill it, is alive. And a fetus is (in the womb of a human, and.. being) begun by two humans and can only be a human because we don't reproduce species other than our own (hence the phrase "reproduce").

Therefore abortion is the killing of a human being.

Isn't that logical?

If it has a heartbeat and brain activity, it is human.

A seed that germinates after being planted in potting soil is not a flower, is it?

What is and what is not human is very subjective, even according to the criteria of the second answer a fetus isn't a human until at least 6 weeks into the pregnancy. I would assume that you don't consider human beings parasites, but according to biology, fetuses meet all the requirements to be classified as a parasite. So, there are many different ideas as to what fetuses are, in the end when it comes to killing them, I believe you have to consider the specific situation. If a woman is killed by someone who had no idea she was pregnant it seems ridiculous to charge them for two homicides, however if the woman is killed to kill the fetus, there might be an argument.

I have to say when I was younger I was sure that I would get an abortion if I ever had an unwanted pregnancy, but after having my first daughter and feeling so thankful for the precious gift of my baby and being able to experience motherhood, I cannot imagine terminating the life of a human at any stage.

But we do live in a free country, and ultimately, a pregnant woman should have say for what happens to her body. The whole fetus thing is just a means to make abortion tolerable in the eyes of the law. I know for a fact, that even if it is outlawed it will continue to be done. So there is the delima: Is it better to have it as a legal option?.

It is sooo important to educate young people on birth control before they get into trouble. Education does not mean you condone premarital sex. It will help reduce the amount of abortions done.

Abortion is a sad, sad thing.

I am a man, and therefore cannot carry another human being inside my body, naturally. Therefore, I will not make a judgement that I would expect women to adhere to.

I do have my own views, however, and I believe that in some situations abortions are a necessity, whether I like it or not. There are situations in which a mother's life is at risk if she carries a fetus to term. There are other situations in which the developing embryo exhibits deformities or genetic disease so radical as to almost beg for a "mercy killing." There are situations in which a woman is a victim of rape or other form of sexual abuse and as she did not make the choice to engage in such activities, the resulting pregnancy and birth would be nothing more than the criminal perpetrating the crime actually STAYING in the woman's life, continually reminding her of what happened. And in a situation such as that, my respect for the dignity Human life actually dictates that I not gleefully consider allowing a human being to develop to term for THAT heinous reason.

As for stating that it is logical to say that abortion is killing a human being. This is not so. At the early stages of development, the developing embryo/fetus is nothing more than a glob of protoplasm--undifferentiated cells that could be a frog as easily as an ostrich, and elephant, a woodlouse, or a human. To call such a thing "human" brings elements of confusion into an issue that demands clarity.

Late term abortions are another issue all together, but since I will never be one in a position to determine whether or not an abortion is appropriate for MYSELF, I will leave such decisions to those more qualified, or at least more physically capable of making them, since they--women--are the ones who have to live nine months (or less) carrying the weight of that decision in their very bodies.

I agree, and there is a double standard. Many "doctors" and "scientists" have proclaimed that a fetus isn't a person, because of a bunch of different stupid reasons. They're just using that as justification for abortion.
