I know this may sound stupid, but are you *absolutely* certain you have the wand end placed into the correct hole? The wand *will* fit into both the intake and the exhaust holes on the machine so that you can both vacuum things and *plump up* your upholstery and cushions with fresh air (from their web-sit -- honest), so you may just have it in the wrong outlet?

There should be another place to put the hose! One is for vacuuming and the other to put out air, I think you can even use an air brush for painting with that vacuum.
