David Ortiz --- one of the most feared sluggers in the game today.

Josh Beckett has been a key member of a struggling pitching staff, however it would even be difficult to make the case that he is the best starting pitcher on the team right now. Schilling has 10 wins with an ERA over a full point lower than Beckett's. Also, although he hasn't pitched the entire season, you could make a case for Jon Lester, who is 4-0 with a 2.89 ERA, the best on the team for a starter. Trot Nixon should be mentioned as an option since he is leading the team with a batting average of .310, but David Ortiz's performance in the clutch cannot be measured. His league-leading 31 HR and 87 RBI make him the best player on the team right now.

David Ortiz, hands down. As far as most valuable player goes, one could make an argument for Papelbon, but David Ortiz defines Red Sox baseball and is what makes the team click.

Tough call between Ortiz and Manny, really.

Ortiz has better home run and RBI numbers, but RBIs are of course dependent on a lot of factors. Manny has a higher OBP, while Ortiz has a slightly higher SLG percentage.

At this point, I believe that Ortiz would be their MVP, but Manny deserves more credit than he's currently getting.

I can't believe Manny gets no love on here - ridiculous.

My Stay HOT award goes to:
the Beer man behind home plate..he keeps that one guy juiced all game so we can all hear his creative insults very loud and clear on NESN, thus bringing humor to every game.

But for REAL the best Red Sox for the past 3 years is Terry Franconia.

I don't know Answerman... you could definitely make a case for Coco Crisp to be the best defensive player on the Sox. Did you see that phenomenal diving catch he made in center field a couple weeks back?

I will go with Ortiz too. He seems to do more to win games than other players.

No question, it's Papi. You could make a case for papelbon, but he hasn't earned it yet. He still has more to prove. Papi is the real deal.
