I have a newer model of the playstation 2, not the one in all the online guides. I sent it back to Sony twice and both times it has frozen and given me a "Disk Read Error" message upon reboot. This is now the third time it's happened and I'm trying to fix it myself. Can anyone give me any advice other than the online guides or "did you try cleaning your disk?" Like i said, my ps2 is not like the ones on the online guides and it's not a slim, it's just newer. The reason the online guides don't work for me is because i don't have the white gear they all say to turn. And yes, ive also tried cleaning the lens.

Well I had the same problem with my PS2 and this is what I did and it is working well. Everybody tells you about cleaning the lens. Well.. the way to do it is pick up a clean ear bud and flatten it on one side(remember to keep it clean). Remove the lens cover (blackone) and slightly lift the lens of the head using a plastic tweezer and clean the head beneath slowly and try to use one or two buds. Then clean the upper lens too. After this try to dust both inner and outer lens using a dust blower. Close the back cover back to its position. I hope that this time it will work

First off how did you clean the lens? Disk Read errors are common on none slim PS2 when turned on there sides. Place the PS2 flat on all four of it's feet and try you game again.

Secondly take it to a video game shop and ask one of the people their.

I had the same problem. You'll have to take it apart to get to the laser lens. Use a cotton swab with alcohol and rub the lens lightly in a circular motion. Using a regular laser lens cleaner (disk) did not work for me.

I have two PS2's and the only time it reads that is when my disc is bad. If my discs are scratched, thats when it happens. Although, I did have a system crash on me last year, and the tech told me it was because I was playing burned discs (cd,dvd) through my playstation. So I havent done that with either of the ones I have now. Good luck.

If it happens only to a certain disk or disks try putting your games in the freezer for a few hours, sometimes that will help to repair disks that have been warped slightly.

This may damage your PS2's lens, but it worked on my old one. Try blasting dust away from the CD lens. If that doesn't work, You're toast. That new console smell is coming again... Sorry :(

Qucik fix.

Open it up, get a q-tip, dunk the q-tip in rubbing alcohol, then lightly, and i mean, lightly, clean the laser lens.

It'll work like a champ.
