they actually did not predict "more" than last year, but just a higher number than average.
There have been a few hurricanes, there currently are two in progress, Bud and Carlotta. Bud was down graded back to a tropical storm because it lost speed.
This is a good page to look at too

Most of this hurricane season, strong upper level winds over the Carribean and Western Atlantic have been thwarting any tropical development. We have seen some pretty impressive waves, however.

While they did predict another active season, it's pretty safe to say that the National Hurricane Center will never predict the development of more than 28 hurricanes in a season. 2005 was a record breaking season for the Atlantic Basin in almost every way possible... no sane meteorologist would predict 2006 to break those records.

2005 was the worst season ever recorded for hurricanes

2005 also had its first storm in May, which Only ever happened one other time.

I am surpised that it hasn't been more active with how warm the water was over the winter

The worst hurricanes are usually in August through October when it is the warmest. Don't count your chickens before they hatch.

Actually, there has only been one so far in the Atlantic (Alberto) I live in South Carolina and they usually don't impact us until August and September (although Hugo, out last big one, was in October)
