We just bought a 1968 Mustang - has been sitting about 3 years in someones yard under a ponderosa pine tree so it has several spots of pitch on it, the pitch is dried up, the paint is white and pretty dry so I was wanting to wax it but would like to get the pitch off of it first.- what is the best way to get the pitch off. There must be a product out there I don't know about that would take it off or somekind of home remedy to use. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Try rubbing mayonaisse on it and wiping it off. Repeat until it comes off. It takes off tar, so why not pitch?

Well, if you're going to polish it and the paint is oxidized, you'll need to use an abrasive compound from the parts store anyway, just in preparation for the waxing. Abrasive compounds come in 2 or 3 Grits. Start with the finest grit and follow the instructions. Your dried spots will probably come off with that. '68 Mustang, wow. Certainly had fun in one of those, back in '69. Good luck.

Go to auto parts store and get tar remover in a spray bottle. Make sure the label says it can also remove tree sap. Good Luck.

I would try softening it up with margarine or butter, then wiping it off. Try a small spot first to see how it goes..................
