It's a nickname for Canadians. It's also a loose translation for "the best hockey team there is!".
Vancouver rocks!

I don't see either team going deep in the palyoffs... I'm a realist. I just don't see the Cancuks winning if their leaders are the Sedins and Luongo (and throw Kessler in the mix). They are all great in their own right but they lack something and getting some new faces on the blue line won't help them because those guys won't listen to anyone. The Flames have a better chance than the Canucks... but that's not saying much. I understand that everyone loves the Canucks (again) to win it all but I am not buying that crap. The Canucks are the most touted team for the last few years for accomplishing nothing. When will people learn?

OK, I think you got the answer but here's another weird twist. Some donuthead Americans tend to think "Canuck" can be used as an insult equivalent as to "wop" is for Italians.
Then again some Canadians call Americans, Yanks or Yankees which is meaningless really given the Revolutionary (thanks, solid gold dancer three doors down!) War ended years ago.

Ummm to fug Yankee is from the REVOLUTIONARY WAR not the Civil War. That's why in the War Between the States the U.S. was the Yankees and the C.S.A. was Dixie. Well not why they were Dixie, and still are, but it's why they had their OWN name. It was an insult that the English used to call the colonists. Us crazy Americans started using it as a slang for ourselves and made a joke of it being an insult. That is why it actually stuck. A Yankee Doodle WASN'T a good thing, well until we took over the word.

How I think the Canucks got there name:
Since the players and managers and such were so dumb, they made a table out on the corner of the street so people could come up and suggest names. After a while, a drunk hobo came up and said, "Hey, you guysh should be the Can*u*cksh!" (the "u" is a hiccup). So that is how they got there name.

being called a Canuck IS NOT insulting. As the answers correctly state..Canuck means Canadian...so all you're being called is (a) Canadian.

Canuck is slang for canadian, but also refers to canadian cartoon character johnny canuck. just as calling an american a yankee is insulting, it is considered insulting for a non-canadian to call a canadian a canuck...

It doesn't refer to FRENCH canadians. It's a slang term that refers to CANADIANS. Vancouver has like a 0.0001% french speaking population.

Refers to people from Canada. Similar to how other countries reference to US citizens as "yankees".
