I cannot comment on the alka-seltzer but do have (absolutely not first hand )knowledge on how seagulls drop like stones after consuming bread laced with major tranquilizers, I do believe this to have been one of many sick pass-times for asylum staff in years gone by. Not that mis use of NHS supplies or the abuse of vermin animals would be in any way condoned by any serving professional person such as myself.

I probably shouldn't tell you this and please don't harm any birds but if you feed a seagull bicarbonate of soda on some bread the seagull will explode because they can't fart or burp!
If you want to harm something pick on the Americans!

i heard that bread soaked in bi carb of soda would make them explode as it reacts with the salt. ur not from newquay by any chance? i know there is a big problem with aggressive seagulls there , plus their e coli infested droppings r everywhere.
