I started a group of comedians that perform for free at charitable events. I have even put a few events together on my own. Where do I put this on a resume? Should I put it under employment or hobbies. Is it acceptable to put a specific place for volunteer work?

You can make a special section called "Voluntary Work Experience" or since you organized this, I would suggest a special section for "Special Achievements and Experiences". You can put any awards and honours you won there too.

Under Organizations

First off, good for you, what a great idea!!

I would put it under employment history since you started it and organized it. If you had a section for volunteer experience you could put it there instead, but dont put it under hobbies, you will be underscoring all the valuable skills you have learned and put to use.

It would go best under hobbies. Instead of puting a hobbies section though try listing them as "other interests". That way it will cover a number of things including volenteer work. Good luck.

If there is no where else, yes I would put it in other interests and hobbies, I'm glad that you are finding a way to help others, and enjoy doing it at the same time, Good Luck, and God Bless.

I would definitely categorize it under volunteer work. Employers love to see that you give back to the community. It shows that you have good character and are a responsible individual. I love to volunteer. It makes me feel all tingly inside!

Depends on what job position you are applying for. As an example, if you're applying for a position as an accounting clerk, I would put it under accomplishments. Then again, if you're applying for a position as Volunteer Coordinator that would pay you $80,000 you should stick it up front where everyone can see it.

Good Luck :-)

You can put voluneer work under employment and that's okay. Its real work to organize events!!!! Just put "volunteer" so they know. It is okay to put voluneer activities under their own heading but make sure it doesn't make your resume more than one page. Employers are busy and they just skim over resumes, they won't even bother turning the page so don't bother.

I would create a section at the end of the resume called 'Other Notes' or 'Personal' or 'Notables' to list intangible things that don't quite relate to your work experience but tell about your character traits.
