...but I don't think she should. (For my moral reasons.) But, what are some reasons why she shouldn't get one? I mean, besides the fact that they are permanent.

I don't think she's getting one to symbolize anything.
She's getting a small dragonfly.
I think she's just getting one to have one.
To be "cool".

Its her decision, not yours.

If your asking so you have some reasons to talk her out of it, I'm not going to give you that fuel.
What I can give you is practical information.

She should be going to a clean, hygienic studio that uses an autoclave to sterilize their equipment.(just like a hospital)
You should see if they are doing spore testing on a regular basis to make sure that their autoclave is in good working order. They should be able to show this to you. Many shops have this displayed on the wall.

Some states have a license to operate. If this is in your state, make sure they have it.

She should be getting tattooed with brand new, completely sterilized single-use needles. The artist should wear gloves at all times.

Her artist should be knowledgeable and experienced. She should feel comfortable and see his/her portfolios before hand. The artist also should be respectful towards her and answer any questions that she may have.

The artist should explain proper aftercare to her.

As for tattoo inks, most tattoo inks are made of all natural ingredients....except for the glow in the dark inks. Tell her not to get a glow in the dark tattoo, there can be massive complications with those ones.

For one, if she's asking you if she should get one then she shouldn't. She'll be basing her answer on what you say and since you are saying no, more then likely she won't get it. On the other hand, she just might ignore you and get it anyways. If she wants to get one, let her know your OPINIONS. Don't just tell her no. It's up to her, it's her body. IF she does, she should get something that means and/or symbolizes something to her. Something that she is willing to live the rest of her life with. A tattoo is not something to be taken lightly. There are only a few reasons not to get one. All tattoo parlors in the US use new needles on every customer. That eliminates the cross contamination. Not properly taking care of the tattoo in the beginning is another reason. If she does get one she needs to do a few things. 1. Check out the place first. DO NOT go to a home tattoo parlor. Go to a business one. Check out the license. Make sure they use new, fresh needles on every customer. 2. Make sure she gets something that she will not regret later. It should be something that means and/or symbolizes something to her. And lastly, 3. If and when she does get one, she needs to make sure she listens to the tattooist on how she should care for it.

I cannot imagine what kind of "moral reasons" you would have about getting a tattoo. The art has been around much longer than most people realize.

Unless she is unsure about what kind of tattoo she wants to get, there really are no reasons why she shouldn't get one if she wants to.

Besides that, she should make sure the place she goes is clean and reputable.

Better question...why do you care what she does with her body. I personally think that tattoos are beautiful and give you the opportunity to support a popular art form. The only time that I disagree with tattooing is if the tattoo has no meaning to the person. If they are getting it just to look cool then I think its wrong. You have to get something that is going to still hold meaning in 50 years.

I think she definetly has to be sure she wants one..she has to realize that the design she gets and where it is placed is permanent..I do not think they are wrong..I love tattoos it is a great way to express yourself..and maybe that is what your friend it trying to do, so be careful about too much interference since this is a personal decision in my opinion.

Other then the fact that they are permanent, I don't see a reason not to get one. It's just s form of personal expression. It doesn't harm anyone.

She just needs to make sure that she's 100% positive of what she wants to get.

Truthfully, my niece got a tatoo ended up with lead poisoning now shes on a kidney machine just because she wanted to get a tatoo. And if your friend really wants one she needs to go somewhere where they will not use any lead inks. Be Careful

Nothing wrong with getting a tattoo. Body modification is like a personal signature. Let her get one if she wants to... She'll wear it with pride.
