So this German, Dr. Reith in Australia, has discovered a microbe bacteria that eats dirt and craps out gold.

So, why is the accumulation of gold what determines who is important and who is not?

The greed or thirst for wealth is actually the accumulation of bacteria Sh**. Are you proud of your wallet? If you are ultimately materialistic, your god is bacteria crap.

I was thinking the same thing about that microbe. Need to start selling Austrailian dirt on the net. IF we could harvest gold from dirt that would turn the economic system on it's ear.

You seem to be saying that the love of money is the root of all evil.
In the Judeo-Christian-Muslim tradition that is part of scripture.

As far as the need for money for society to function-- we don't need actual cash to function. In fact, billions of transactions take place daily , buying everything from a pack of gum to an office building which involve no cash at all.

What we have is agreements about what things are worth, and dollars, yen, pesos, etc. are just convenient ways to express it.

For example, you do some kind of work- lets say you write books.
You put a lot of time, energy & effort into it. Now you want someone to print & bind your book. How do you compensate them? Maybe you could write ads for their business. OK now, you have 1000 copies of your book. I am 3,000 miles away from you. I am an auto mechanic. You don't have a car. How do I compensate you for a copy of your book?

The way it works now is that I fix someone elses car. They give me a piece of paper which says they will paint my house. I fix another car. They give me a piece of paper worth 20 meals at their resturant. You get the idea. Money is just a symbol. It is a convenient way to transfer time and energy from one person to another, using agreed upon values for every transaction.

Who says what your time is worth? You do. If you sell your time to MacDonalds, it's worth $6.50/hr. If you sell your time elsewhere, it is worth whatever you accept for it.

I agree that greed is a terrible thing & the cause of many problems on this planet. Thanks for the goldshitting bacteria.

Oh praise thee, God of holy bacteria crap. Oh Lord, how can I compile more of your sacred crap into MY wallet and MY bank account?

Dude, I don't care if it is crap and vomit of a microbe, give me the good stuff! And I will continue to wear this crap on my ears, fingers, neck, and wrist proudly!!

Is it possible to raise this microbe in an ant-farm-like environment? I'd be interested in doing so.

As for your question, perhaps money perse is not necessary, but some sort of bargaining chip sure as hell is.

It's not necessarily gold or money. Remember the barter system? Anything that is valued by a society can be used as money.

money is both good and bad to society. its what we need to survive but it's also one of the things we have wars over. unfortunately society needs a lot of work to become peaceful
