Anyone else struggling to survive?

Prices for things we MUST have (like groceries, gas, and housing) are getting SO high! Any good/realistic ideas about getting this under control?

Yes. I'm sure there're people doing worse than I, and it's pretty difficult for me. Even in this so called earthly paradise, the U.S.

I tried a lot of store brands and I like many of them just as much as the name brands. I cut my grocery bill waaaay down.

I told my kids they were going to have to get their acts together regarding the amount of gas we use (especially during the summer when they are not in school). After school if they want to go to friends homes they go on the bus and I make one trip to pick up everyone. We work it out with other parents so I drop off everyone at the movies and someone else picks up.

Just those two changes made such a huge difference in our budget that over the span of ten years we paid off our mortgage and have ZERO credit card debt.

I have cut alot of cost :

Buying store brand foods. Some of them may be a little hard to tolerate and for those, I will not compromise.

Clothes buying has slowed way down.

I must have my cable but I did take off HBO. I have all the channels but no premium movie channels, that we can defenitely live without.

I cook more and don't buy alot of restaurant foods.

Driving around just to be driving is a NO NO!!

Shop at Aldi (a wholesaler type grocery store), cook your own meals, buy a smaller house (that will lower all kinds of bills), don't drive so much, buy a car that gets good gas mileage, carpool, don't use your ac. Do you really need cable/satellite/dsl/tivo? How much do you spend on clothes? How much do you spend on interest on credit cards? It's the little things that add up.
